About · دار المحيط

The house
of the sea

A riad in the medina of Salé,
just a breath away from the Atlantic.

The project

A house given
back to the medina

Dar El Mouhit grows out of the restoration of an old riad in the medina of Salé. A courtyard house, with low thresholds and lime-washed walls, that we are returning to its first purpose: to welcome.

The work moves at the pace of the crafts — zellige laid by hand, tadelakt smoothed with stone, carved cedar, ironwork taken up workshop by workshop. Nothing is veneered: we repair, we extend, we keep faith with the original gesture.

Opening planned for 2027. Until then, the house remakes itself patiently, faithful to what it has always been.

The vision

Anchored
in the medina

Why Salé? Because here the medina has stayed alive.

Its crafts — weaving, leatherwork, pottery — existed before tourism and carry on without it. It is a medina that works, and that lets itself be watched living. We did not want to build beside it, but inside it.

A riad anchored in its medina,
not an uprooted hotel.

Dar El Mouhit is not meant to be an enclave. We want a house that opens onto its alley, that buys from its neighbours, that speaks the language of the quarter. And — a rare trait for a Moroccan riad — a house turned toward the Atlantic: the open sea is in the air, in the morning light, in the very name of the place.
